BOMA CALIFORNIA

Welcome to the website of the state of California’s leading organization for commercial real estate.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of California (BOMA California) is a federation of all eight metropolitan BOMA local associations and serves as the collective membership’s legislative and regulatory advocate.

The mission of BOMA California is to preserve and promote the interests of California commercial real estate professionals through legislative and regulatory advocacy.

BOMA is all about advocacy for the commercial real estate industry, whether before board of supervisors, the California State Legislature, state agencies like the State Fire Marshal’s office or the Public Utilities Commission, or the U.S. Congress.

Let us be as useful as possible to you by giving us feedback on any legislative, environmental, code or energy-related matter that is of interest or concern to you!

YEAR-END WRAP-UP & SUCCESSES

During 2015, BOMA California had great success on a number of key legislative and regulatory issues. Below are some highlights.

BOMA LEGISLATIVE/POLITICAL EVENTS – BOMA California leadership participated in several high-level events which gave them access to peers and policymakers. Starting in January at BOMA’s “New Legislator Lunch” in Sacramento which was attended by almost half of the newly elected Assemblymembers/Senators. In April, we co-hosted a Legislative Meeting at which BOMA members were able to weigh in on industry positions on over 400 bills. In June, we co-hosted the “California Commercial Real Estate Summit,” in which BOMA leaders met with Gubernatorial staff and over 1/3 of the Legislature. In November, we co-hosted the “Strategic Issues Conference,” at which BOMA leadership  met with leaders from peer group associations (such as the Building Industry Association and CA Manufacturers’) to learn about major issues in the state. In between these major event, BOMA personnel attended major BOMA events to educate members about policy issues.

LEGISLATION – On behalf of the commercial real estate industry, BOMA engaged on 489 pieces of legislation in the California State Capitol. A full listing of bills, positions, and outcomes has been provided under separate cover.

REGULATIONS – BOMA engaged regulatory agencies ranging from the California Energy Commission, Public Utilities Commission, Air Resources Board, Building Standards Commission, State Architect and Department of Finance
on a range of policies, such as energy efficiency, greenhouse gas regulation, land-use and recycling. This year a lot of time was spent on Energy Issues.
