California Codes & Regulations
California was always the leader in codes, what happened? In many different realms, California is seen by the nation, as well as the world, in leadership roles involving policies and regulations. However, California fell severely in updating and adopting new regulations, codes and standards
In 2005, after years of political battles and inaction, the California Building Standards Commission took the appropriate steps to adopt the newest editions of internationally accredited codes and standards. This update was nearly 10 years overdue, which jeopardized the safety of the public with outdated regulations and standards. Once effective in California on January 1, 2008, California will be amongst the very first to adopt these new and updated provisions. This includes the 2006 versions of the International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and the 2005 version of the National Fire Protection Association Electrical Code 1 (NFPA 1).
These codes will have significant impacts on the commercial real estate industry, however with BOMA Cal's seat at the table, we are able to ensure that our best interests are well represented.
