Who knew that those old thermostats could cost you $25,000? That’s the fine for failing to recycle mercury thermostats. WATER FIXTURE REPLACEMENT MANDATE – MUST COMPLETE BY 2019

A bill passed into law nine years ago, SB 407 (Padilla; Chapter 587, 2009), requires “non-compliant” plumbing fixtures to be replaced with water-conserving plumbing fixtures when a property is undergoing additions, alterations or improvements. Applicants seeking to obtain permits for any of these types of work will be required to replace non-compliant fixtures prior to final permit approval or issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the local building department. At its Board of Directors meeting earlier this week, California Business Properties Association leadership discussed a broad range of topics impacting the commercial real estate industry and voted to take positions on several statewide ballot measures this Fall. CBPA ENDORSES PROPOSITION 69 – PROTECTS NEW TRANSPORTATION FUNDS

The CBPA Board also unanimously voted to endorse Proposition 69, the Transportation Taxes and Fees Lockbox and Appropriations Limit Exemption Amendment, is on the ballot for the June ballot as it was placed by the Legislature. The CBPA board also endorsed two water bond measures. The first, Proposition 68 The Parks, Environment, and Water Bond, was approved for consideration by the Legislature and will be on June ballot.  If approved, the measure would authorize $4 billion in general obligation bonds for state and local parks, environmental protection and restoration projects, and, most importantly, water infrastructure and flood protection projects. CBPA OPPOSES RENT CONTROL MEASURE

The CBPA Board voted unanimously to oppose a ballot measure that is currently out for signatures known as “The California Local Rent Control Initiative.”  The measure would repeal Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, a law designed to prohibit local government from enacting rent control on buildings first occupied after 1995.  According to a recent fiscal impact statement, this measure will cost local government and the real estate industry tens of millions of dollars.  This measure will also ...
