SUPPORT FOR FEDERAL ADA REFORM!

We have joined a large coalition of stakeholders in Washington D.C. to applaud and support the introduction of H.R. 620, “The ADA Education and Reform Act.”  Recently in California we have seen several major reforms to the statewide implementation of the ADA, which are intended to increase access while reducing unnecessary lawsuits.  This legislation will hopefully mirror some of our state’s reforms. The commercial, retail, and industrial real estate industry strongly supports the intent ...

For those of us in Northern California the five major storms we have had in the past two weeks is major relief to the drought.  However, it has also served to highlight the shabby state our roads are in.  Driving on freeways and highways and city streets has become a game of Frogger, except we are dodging potholes, chunks of loose road, huge puddles of water, and traffic. As a member of the “Fix Our Roads Coalition” we held a press conference in Sacramento this week to call on the Legislature ...

California’s corps of green shaded budget analysts miscalculated costs for the state Medi-Cal program by $1.9 billion last year, which has put the state’s budget a bit out of whack.  Mistakes happen.  But the timing on this one is a bit awkward as it may be amplified by unknowns and transitions in federal funds and priorities.  To get things back on track the Democratic governor called for more than $3 billion in cuts on a projected deficit he pegged at $1.6 billion.  Click hereto see the ...

The Governor this week unveiled his proposed 2017-2018 budget, which kicks of the legislative session in earnest.  Although California’s budget remains balanced, it is still in a “precarious” position with lots of unknowns on the horizon with a new President being sworn in next week.  During a luncheon at the California Chamber of Commerce, Department of Finance Director Michael Cohen hit some of the budget highlights, a plan that keeps General Fund spending flat at $122.5 billion, while ...
